#TheDress: Controversial Enough To Ruin Friendships and #BreakTheInternet

"Guys please help me - is this dress white and gold, or blue and black? Me and my friends can’t agree and we are freaking the [redacted] out."

If you haven't heard of #TheDress yet, you're in for a real treat. The photo below, originally posted by Tumblr user swiked, has taken Buzzfeed and Twitter by storm and probably did a better job breaking the Internet than Kim Kardashian's photo shoot for Paper magazine ever thought about doing.

Seems like a pretty simple lace bodycon dress, right? Wrong. When I first saw the photo while I was at work, I had to do a double take as to what color it was. My mother saw light blue and brown, while my father saw white and gold, thus further adding to my confusion. My coworkers and I argued over it for several minutes, and when I got home, the madness had only begun. Every single sister I live in the sorority house with was talking about #TheDress, and I honestly thought they were crazy until I saw the dress as both white/gold and blue and black. What do you see?

Update: swiked has uploaded another picture of #TheDress. If you guessed that #TheDress was blue and black, congratulations! You were right. The original dress is supposedly sold at this website, and while the design is offered in three other colors, none of the four are white and gold.

For the skeptics who still believe this dress might be white and gold, at least there's one thing we can all agree on. There are so many cute dresses out there that are worth fighting over, and this is not one of them.
